MIT SVS announces the launch of the next batch of its masters’ program – MA in Samskrit – designed for the 21st century seekers. This authentic, convenient and customizable program is meant for the smart seeker yearning to dive deep into the ocean of knowledge available in the Samskrit language.

Admission Workflow – For residents of India

Here are all the steps for admission. Skip ahead to the step that applies to you.

  1. Fill the pre-registration form
  2. Decide which option to take: Master’s Certificate in Samskrit, or MA Samskrit degree
    • Residents of India can choose either one.
    • See below for the implications of either choice.
  3. Formally apply for admission as follows:
    • For Master’s Certificate (level 1) in Samskrit, fill out the SVS Online Certificate Courses form.
      • Select “Samskrit-1” in the “Course you wish to apply for”.
    • For MA Samskrit degree of MIT-ADT University, fill out the university admission form.
    • Fee is ₹ 60,000 per year payable at the beginning.
  4. Register for the entrance test – Samskrit Language Proficiency (SLP):
  5. Optionally, enroll in the Samskrit-1 course of MIT SVS to help prepare for the SLP test.
  6. Take the SLP Test (by May 31):
  7. When notified that you have passed the test and offered admission, pay the annual fee within a week of receipt of the offer (by June 1)
    • Payment instructions will be included in the admission offer.

Important Dates

  • Start date to apply for admission: Jan 15
  • Last date to apply for admission: June 1
  • Entrance test opens: Jan 20
  • Preparatory Samskrit course for entrance Test: Jan 31 – May 15
  • Entrance test closes: May 31
  • Offer of admission: Feb 1 – June 1
  • Last date for payment of fee: June 1
  • Commencement of classes: July 1

Program Details

MA degree in Samskrit (Accredited by the University Grants Commission, India)

  • MIT ADT University admission form
    • Select PG Programs and MA (Samskrit) in the menu.
  • You must be able and ready to abide by the MIT-ADT University rules and regulations.
  • You must be ready to visit the Pune campus for taking final paper-based exams for at least a week at the end of every semester (typically 1st or 2nd week of December and May). In addition, you must attend on-campus lectures at least once during a semester.
  • Minimum 80% attendance in all interactive lectures (online or offline) is mandatory to be able to appear for exams in each semester.
  • You must furnish the required documentation including your prior degrees and migration certificate at the time of admission before commencement of the course (i.e. July 1).

Masters’ Certificate in Samskrit

  • The course work and assessment model is identical for both the programs. Joining the MA degree program requires adherence to additional University terms and conditions.
  • If meeting one or more of the above conditions pertaining to MA degree program is difficult for you, we’d recommend you take the certificate program option, which waives the campus visit requirement. If you are not keen on a University degree but are studying out of passion, this is an attractive and convenient option.
  • This model is highly recommended for non-residents of India.

Entrance criteria for both programs – Sanskrit Language Proficiency Test (SLP)

  • There is a free preview available for your self-assessment at https://vedavaapi.moodlecloud.com/. Please access the preview test immediately by logging into this site with username ‘vvsampler‘ and password ‘atithiH‘. After logging in, click on the course named “Sanskrit Proficiency Test – Preview” and launch the quiz. This quiz offers a few samples of all the question types to expect in the real test.

Admission offers will be made on first-come-first-served basis upon completion of SLP test (ongoing from Jan 20 – May 31)

Need help with Samskrit proficiency? (before attempting SLP Test)

  • While you are free to acquire the requisite Samskrit language proficiency anywhere, MIT SVS offers a paid online 40-day certificate course called “Samskrit-1 – Thinking in Sanskrit” to help you quickly ramp up to understand spoken Samskrit like a native speaker – without memorization or translations.
