Samskrit-1: Learn to think in Samskrit

MIT SVS launches the next batch of its 2-month introductory Spoken Samskrit course, “Samskrit 1: Thinking in Samskrit”, from Jan 30th.

This course gives you the ability to comprehend spoken and written Samskrit without need for translations, and gives the competence needed to enter into our M.A. Samskrit program that starts from July.

How to Sign up

  • Fill and submit the online application form on this link. In the form, select “Samskrit-1” as the “Course you wish to apply for”.

  1. Constructing simple sentences in Samskrit. (सरल-संस्कृत-सम्भाषणम्)
  2. Understanding the basic structure of Samskrit without learning grammar.
  3. Thinking natively in Samskrit.
  4. Proper pronunciation of Samskrit words through knowing the science of pronunciation. (वर्णोच्चारणम्)
  5. Knowledge of frequently used suffixes in Samskrit literature. (प्रत्ययाः – क्त्वा, तुमुन् इत्यादयः)
  6. Internalizing the technique (आकाङ्क्षापद्धतिः) of understanding Samskrit verses without depending on translations.
  7. Understanding the method of splitting compound words. (समासविग्रहः)
  8. Understanding modification of the form or sound of a word under the influence of an adjacent word. (सन्धिविच्छेदः)
  9. Enjoying the beauty of Samskrit words, in expressing meaning precisely. (संस्कृतस्य गम्भीरता)
  10. Building compound sentences with simple sentences. (यथा तथा, किन्तु, यत्र तत्र इत्यादि)
