PadmaBhushan Dr. Vijay P. Bhatkar is an Indian computer scientist and a Padmashri and Padmabhushan awardee. India’s computer magazine Dataquest has placed him among the star pioneers who shaped India’s IT industry.

He received the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, in 1972. He obtained his Master of Engineering from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, in 1968, and Bachelor of Engineering from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology in 1965. Dr. Bhatkar is best known as the architect of India’s national initiative in supercomputing where he led the development of Param supercomputers. He developed the first Indian super computer, the Param 8000, in 1991 and later the Param 10000 in 1998.
