Introduction

In a welcome development, the number of successful students passing out from traditional institutions such as Veda Pathshalas, Smarta Pathshalas and Agama Pathshalas are increasing day by day, thanks to the rising awareness and support from different sections of the society. However, the faculty members of such institutions are experts only in their respective subjects. They generally do not have the insight or resources to explore Samskrit / Shaastra studies further. For example, a student who is only trained in Vedas; but not in Samskrit language or any Shaastras, will not have the capability to know and explore the spirit and technicalities of what he studied. In such a situation, he cannot be a holistic teacher as required for Vedic studies.

Rationale

In this scenario, there is an urgent need to train dedicated teachers who can take up this challenge. The Pandits or Purohits who conduct various Vedic rituals for their clients are well versed in Mantras, Shlokas, Gadya and Sankalpa and thus know Samskrit to that extent. However, beyond a point they cannot decode what they do or recite because of their limited knowledge of Samskrit and its technical structure. Hence, it is important to guide them from their known domain to the unknown, yet promising, realm of Samskrit language. Teaching them Samskrit in detail would unlock a hidden treasure sitting right in their backyard. This primary training would boost their moral to take up further studies in future such as the techniques and Shastras. This will enable them to understand the concepts embedded in Vedas, Dharma Shaastras and Agamas. The need and utility of this course is highlighted by the encouraging feedback received from many aspiring students as well as experts.

Target Audience

There are lakhs of people across India who practise Vaidika Karma (religious rituals) as their profession in the form of Paurohitya, Archakatva and Veda Parayanam. According to an estimate, there are one lakh such professionals in Hyderabad alone. Most of them are not trained in Samskrit / Shaastra studies. Most of them experience a slack period in their work in the afternoon, from about 1 pm to 4 pm, which can be devoted to further studies.
